On April 27th, the match within the regular NHL season held at the Bell MTS Place in the Canadian city of Winnipeg ended with a devastating defeat 6:1 for the home team. Edmonton once again managed to win with great advantage in points, and its opponent lost for the fourth time in a row.
The Oilers’ clear advantages were obvious throughout the whole game. The team confidently went forward, successfully attacking the opponent’s goal. The decisive goals in this match were realized by the following players of the winning club:
- Alex Chiasson;
- Conor McDavid — 3 goals;
- Leon Draisaitl;
- Darnell Nurse.
Defender Dmitry Kulikov, who has been playing for Edmonton for a long time, also shone in this match. His rating is up two points after he delivered a well-aimed but saved shot against the Jets’ goal.
Winnipeg’s hockey players managed to hit the opponent’s goal only once. The only goal was scored by Mark Scheifele.
Teams’ achievements and their plans for the future
Without exaggeration, Winnipeg today is in a crisis. Paul Maurice’s players have allowed their rivals to beat them in the last three games in a row. They managed to win two matches against Toronto, the favourite of the championship. Another game was a success for Edmonton. It should be noted that until recently the team went balls to the wall. But it is impossible to do your best for an infinitely long time, or you will achieve the exact opposite result. This assumption was soon confirmed by the increase in the number of injured players, which, of course, ruined the quality of the team’s performance.
Winnipeg hasn’t shown itself in the best way in the last matches of the championship. Maurice’s players have lost to Edmonton 5 times, while winning only two matches. But the Jets’ losing streak must end sometime. Numerous fans of the club are hoping for his victory in the upcoming match against Edmonton in late April.
In total, hockey players from Manitoba had 48 matches in the regular NHL championship. Now the club occupies the third position in the tournament table of the Northern Division with 57 points scored.
It should also be noted that the Oilers’ position is not much better than that of its competitor. Today, the amount of their points is even slightly less than that of Winnipeg. The success of the team has long depended not only on the initiative and skills of the famous club favourites Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Other hockey players improved their performance, too. Understandably, the Oilers will most probably maintain the same level of efficiency in the upcoming playoff games.
